Zanjeer remake to go on floors in April
Mumbai: After the remakes of Amitabh Bachchan's classic movies 'Don' and 'Agneepath', another movie from his account is set to go on the floors in April and it's none other than 'Zanjeer' that bestowed upon him the title of "angry young man'. But this time, no Bollywood star is going to feature in the film, instead south sensation and Chiranjeevi's son Ram Charan Teja has been selected to step into the shoes of the megastar.
The remake will be helmed by 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' director Apoorva Lakhia, who confirmed this news and said on the sidelines of the semi-finals of Celebrity Cricket League. The filmmaker was here to play for Sohail Khan's Mumbai Heroes, "My film starts from April 20 so I am going to start working on it, it is the remake of 'Zanjeer' and next week I am going to shoot for an ad in Thailand."
Ram Charan is already an icon for Southern fans. His film "Magadheera" has become one of the biggest hits of all times in the Telugu industry.
The 1973 classic, also starred Jaya Bhaduri and Pran, played a pivotal role in Amitabh's career. The film was a blockbuster and got nine filmfare nominations. It not only catapulted Big B to fame but he got his first filmfare nomination in best actor's category for this film.
Zanjeer's box office collection was over INR 5 crores at that time and shifted the focus from romantic films to action films.

Filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia is remaking the film that became Amitabh Bachchan’s ticket to the fast track, making him a part of Hindi movie lore as the angry young man
The trend of remaking cult films is gaining steam, especially now that Karan Malhotra’s remake of Agneepath has struck gold at the BO. News is that Apoorva Lakhia of Shootout At Lokhandwala fame is remaking another Amitabh Bachchan cult film, Zanjeer, which catapulted him to superstardom after a string of flops. South superstar Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja has bagged the lead role of the intense cop earlier played by the Big B. The makers of the new version of Zanjeer did consider casting Abhishek Bachchan, but somehow that didn’t work out and the film became the launch vehicle for Ram Charan’s Bollywood career.
The details of the remake are still not very clear, but our friendly birdie says that the makers are confident that the new movie will work, even though the times it is set in have changed. The female lead hasn’t been cast yet and it is heard that the makers are keen on a fresh face. We wonder who will play the part of Sher Khan, brilliantly essayed by Pran, and of the villain, played by Ajit, in the original. Amitabh has been very vocal about his dislike for remakes, but the trend is catching on, just like the growing popularity of remaking superhit South Indian films. Do you think it would have been worked if the makers of the new one had cast Jr Bachchan? Could it have changed his career in Bollywood, the way the original did for his father? We can only wonder…

Pawan Kalyan and Puri team up
The success of Businessman has been good for Puri Jagannath in many ways. His Tollywood stocks are soaring and people want to work with him once again. It all started with Badri, starring Pawan Kalyan, but they didn’t seem to click again in the last 10 years. However, this time the hotshot actor listened to a script by Puri and has agreed to do it “in principle”. The big-ticket entertainer is to be produced by Dhaniah, who has made films starring Allu Arjun and Ram Charan Tej.
“It will go to the sets soon once the script is ready,” says a member of the crew. After the remake of Dabangg, Puri has designed a “larger-than-life” role for him. We will just have to wait to see if they can recreate the magic of Badri.
Shankar to direct Chiru’s 150th film
The speculations about Chiranjeevi’s 150th film, considered a landmark event, are rife and keep popping up with a measured periodicity. The news has been doing the rounds for quite some time, ever since 2008 to be precise. That was when Chiranjeevi started his Praja Rajyam and took a plunge into active politics. While his political journey has had a bumpy ride, his acting has always evoked curiosity. Every known writer, director and leading lady has been associated with Chiranjeevi’s landmark film, and like Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th Test century, it remains elusive. Some days back, there was a controversy when the superstar’s son Ram Charan Teja remarked that Tamil film directors like Murugudoss, Shankar and others were better than the ones in Tollywood. This created a furore when Balakrishna took objection and reacted sharply.
Chiranjeevi’s diplomatic intervention settled the matter at the time, but slowly the reasons are coming out into the open. Chiranjeevi’s family has always had a liking for Tamil directors. And now, word out on the street is that it is none other than Shankar who is directing Chiranjeevi’s 150th film, which will be a period film about a freedom fighter. That being the case, with two years to go to the polls, it will be a good venture for Chiranjeevi. While his arch-rival Balakrishna, who is going to town slapping his thigh and twirling his moustache, may also come up with a masala film that could aid the Telugu Desam, who is using him as a poster boy. Who acts in which film and when remains to be seen. As we all know, nothing is set in stone in film land, which is full of half truths. .............January 26, 2012 .DC
